Types of whips

A Flogger is a whip with a solid handle and many tails of varying lengths, widths, and materials - the most common are leather (either synthetic or real) and silicone. But don't be deceived by a silicone whip: although it's smaller and looks more delicate, its tails are thinner, which means that the same force as in, for example, a leather whip with wider tails is distributed over a smaller skin area, thus the sensation upon impact is more intense.

A Slapper combines the features of both a paddle and a flogger. It usually consists of three parallel, often leather and wider layers, which join into a handle. Due to the multiple layers, this toy hits three times with just one swing.

A Riding crop is an ideal choice for beginners who want to explore spanking, but aren't ready for whips with just one tail. It consists of a stick (more rarely a cane) that has a padded handle on one end, and the other end finishes in a leather strap or plate of various widths and shapes (our stock ranges from a thin strap to a wider rectangle to a leather pad in the shape of a heart). With this whip, you can experience both sting (a sharp and localized sensation resulting from hitting with a thinner and more flexible tool) and thud (a sensation resulting from hitting with a wider and more rigid toy).

Dragon tail, bull tail, black snake, signal whip, etc. are single-tail whips - they have only one longer tail, usually made of thicker materials such as various braided ropes, and primarily differ in the shape of the tip. We strongly advise beginners against using these whips, as they are longer than the toys described above, making them harder to control, and the impacts are so intense that they can seriously injure yourself or your partner if used improperly.

Quirt combines the design of a slapper, riding crop, and single-tail whip: the tip is usually a double or triple wider leather strap, attached to a longer thick rope, which ends with a handle. Due to the difficulty in controlling this accessory, its use is recommended only for the more experienced.

How to safely use a whip in bed

• Discuss with your partner beforehand and establish a safe word
• First practice your whipping on a pillow
• Avoid more sensitive areas (back, kidneys, genitals, head...)
• Maintain hygiene and take care of your accessories

All the whips mentioned above can be used for impact play of varying intensities. They are some of the most basic BDSM toys (alongside handcuffs, blindfolds, paddles, and clamps), but that does not mean we do not need to be careful when using them.

Before you start using a whip

It is necessary to communicate with your partner before, during, and after their use, establish a safeword, know which parts of the body we may hit with certain whips, and absolutely not hit with any.

Before using a whip on another person, it is always recommended to practice: first on a couch, pillow, or blanket, then on yourself (if the length of the whip allows) - this simply lets you estimate roughly how much force you can use on your partner.

Before actually whipping, it is good to prepare your partner with warming up. The first hits should be gentle and gradually increase the force used. Also, avoid repeating strong hits in the same place, as this increases the chances of both short-term and long-term skin injuries and scars.

Especially with repeated consecutive whipping of the same spot, the so-called "leather skin" may appear on the submissive partner - this is highly scarred skin, a result of repeated strong impacts, which the person has been subjected to over a longer period of time.

Use the whip carefully

Compared to other spanking tools, whips often leave more visible marks on the skin, which also means that we can more easily damage the tissue to the extent that bleeding occurs, resulting from scratched or even cracked skin. It is therefore important not to use them on people taking blood thinners or individuals with hemophilia.

Due to potential bleeding, it is also necessary to prevent the spread of diseases such as HIV, AIDS, and other diseases that can be transmitted through blood. Therefore, avoid using the same whip on different partners, or if it really isn't possible, thoroughly clean the toy before you use it on another person.

Especially with the use of longer whips, it is important that you practice and train with the toy on a person to get a feel for where the whip will hit with a specific swing. This is easiest to observe on fluffy and plush surfaces, such as plush toys, pillows, and blankets, since their surface will change at the point of impact.

This is important so that you do not miss the selected part of the body for spanking and accidentally hit more sensitive tissue, thereby severely injuring your partner, as well as avoiding the whip wrapping around (a phenomenon when the tip of the whip wraps around the body and thus hits the wrong spot) or unintentionally hitting yourself during a swing.

Whipping is most advisable and safe on parts of the body covered with a lot of muscles and fat, such as buttocks, thighs, and back, but absolutely avoid hitting the spine, kidneys, abdomen (where vital organs are!), joints, face, and neck. Hitting the chest area is also not advised, unless you use a flogger or a wide riding crop and hit with lower intensity than usual.

Hygiene and maintenance of whips

Many whips are made from porous materials, so they need to be well cared for to avoid the growth and transmission of various bacteria. For most whips, care is not difficult - simply clean them with running warm water and mild soap after use.

Never soak a whip, as it will absorb moisture, which will degenerate the material and accelerate the development of various bacteria. The same effect can also be caused by the use of various oils. You can clean a whip most quickly with an antibacterial toy cleaner.

Leather materials, of course, require more care and need to be regularly maintained. Neglected leather can dry out, thereby losing its durability. Therefore, regularly clean these whips with a soft brush or cloth, wipe off wet leather as soon as possible and dry it in the air, and every 3-6 months treat the leather with a specialized leather balm, etc.
